Our Girls That Scuba Learn to Freedive Retreat is back for the 11th time in 2027, and it’s the perfect place to begin your freediving journey. Freediving has a magical way of changing how you experience the ocean - slowing down, tuning into your body and discovering just how incredible it feels to move through the water on a single breath. And there’s no better classroom than the crystal clear cenotes of the Yucatán, some of the most breathtaking freediving environments in the world.

During this unforgettable retreat, you’ll learn the foundations of freediving, explore the surreal beauty of cenotes, and share every moment with an inspiring group of women as you make friends for life.

And here’s something truly special about this trip - every guest gets their own huge, spacious private room included in the price. It’s the only Girls That Scuba trip where a private room comes as standard, giving you the perfect space to relax, recharge and enjoy a little luxury between ocean adventures. Are you joining us?!

Freedive Experience

Freedive Experience image

No freediving experience is required to join this retreat, in fact, we prefer if you come without any, so you can truly absorb and enjoy the full learning journey.

There’s no need to prepare with freediving training in advance. Just bring yourself, your adventurous spirit, and we’ll guide you step by step into this incredible new skill.

our jungle villa

our jungle villa image

Our jungle home is the dream base for this retreat. It’s tucked away in the middle of the jungle but only about 2 miles from downtown Tulum, so you get the best of both worlds. And the best bit? We’ve rented the whole place just for Girls That Scuba.

You’ll have your own big private room with a king-size bed, A/C and full bathroom. This shared villa has a kitchen stocked with a coffee machine, plus a living room and rooftop garden with sunbeds. Oh, and did we mention there are two pools and hot tubs? It’s pretty much paradise.

We’ll have tasty, healthy breakfasts together every morning, and six evenings of alfresco dinners cooked just for us.

your host

Your host and lead instructor for this retreat is the wonderful Cande.

Cande is from Mexico and runs freediving courses, workshops and expeditions across the cenotes of the Yucatan and the Baja Peninsular.

This is her 11th time hosting our much loved Learn to Freedive Retreat in Tulum!

Welcome to Tulum
Day 1 - 6th August image

Arrive at your apartments in Tulum and settle in after your journey. Take some time to relax by the pools, unwind, and start getting to know the other women on the retreat.

In the evening, we’ll officially bring everyone together for our first group dinner around 19:00 at the apartments, where you’ll meet the group, chat about the week ahead and kick off the retreat together.

Day 2

Start the retreat with an introduction to freediving led by our all-female instructor team, including the key theory and foundations you’ll need to begin your journey.

In the afternoon, you’ll head to one of the region’s incredible cenotes for your first in-water training session, where you’ll begin practicing the techniques and experiencing freediving in this unique and beautiful environment.

Today is the final day of the course. We’ll head to a unique cenote to complete the remaining skills and bring together everything you’ve learned over the past few days.

In the afternoon, we’ll close the course with a relaxed closing circle, reflecting on the experience and celebrating how far everyone has come.

Day 5

We can't take you to these magical caverns without scuba diving them - this is Girls that Scuba after all!

We will do 2 x dives in the morning in a new cenote we haven't visited yet, with an all-female scuba diving team!

Day 6

Cozumel scuba diving
Day 6 image

Another dive day! We’ll head out early in the morning by boat and cross over to the famous dive sites of Cozumel, one of the Caribbean’s most celebrated diving destinations. Known for its crystal-clear visibility, vibrant coral reefs and gentle drift diving, Cozumel offers an incredible underwater experience filled with colourful marine life, sponges and dramatic reef formations.

We’ll enjoy two boat dives exploring some of the island’s beautiful reef systems before relaxing on the boat with a light lunch included as we make our way back.

Let’s head to another stunning cenote to continue practicing the skills you’ve learned so far and spend more time becoming comfortable in this incredible underwater environment.

We’ll also have our private photographer joining us, ready to capture both individual and group moments so you’ll have beautiful photos of your freediving experience to remember forever.

New to Girls that Scuba trips? Find out more about our trips and the respect and openness we ask for on these experiences as well as any requirements. Read our full Girls that Scuba Trips Community Norms and FAQs here.

Because freediving involves breathholding and significant physical engagement, we ask all participants to be physically fit, healthy and openminded. While AIDA Level 2 is included (beginner freediver), it’s important to know that the qualification isn’t guaranteed. If our instructors assess that you need more time or additional preparation to meet the course standards, they may recommend further practice.

This retreat is all about slowing down, connecting, and spending time in the cenotes. It’s not a trip for partying in Tulum town or hanging on the beach clubs. We’ll pop into town a couple of times for group dinners, but mostly we’ll stay in our own little jungle bubble - our slice of paradise away from the crowds.

You will have your own private room in a shared villa, exclusive for the 10 guests on this retreat. Group trips are fun and supportive environments to be a part of, read our reviews here to get more of an idea of what to expect.
